OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the U.S. has agreed to pause tariffs on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for at least 30 days after he spoke with President Donald Trump this afternoon.
Trudeau says in a social media post that ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is implementing its $1.3-billion plan to strengthen the border and appointing a “fentanyl czar.”
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø also plans to launch a joint strike force with the U.S. to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering.
Trudeau says the pause will last at least a month “while we work together.”
The news comes after Mexico struck a similar deal with Trump this morning.
Trump signed executive orders on Saturday that laid out a plan to impose 25 per cent tariffs on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and Mexico starting on Tuesday.
