VICTORIA — The Government of British Columbia is expanding its Integrated Marketplace Initiative to help the Port of Prince Rupert become the greenest in ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
It is the third largest port in the country.
The Integrated Marketplace Initiative matches innovators with industry buyers to find sustainable solutions to problems, reduce emissions and build a more robust supply chain, states a news release.
The initiative was launched in 2022 to help the Vancouver International Airport meet its 2030 net-zero commitments and become the greenest airport in the world.
The initiative for the port will focus on supply chain capacity and resiliency through data sharing and process improvements, telematics and digitization of the port, electrification of equipment and alternative fuel options, design and infrastructure improvements, and the reduction of emissions from idling vehicles and equipment.
In the release, Shaun Stevenson, president and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority, said “$60 billion worth of cargo flows through the Prince Rupert gateway each year and we are committed to advancing B.C.’s homegrown technology that reduces the environmental impacts of the port operations that enable trade.â€
