CALGARY, ALTA. — Liberty Housing Organization’s latest non-market housing development has broken ground in Parkdale.
The non-profit is committed to creating socially, financially and environmentally responsible homes and since its inception in 2015 has delivered nearly 500 affordable homes in the Calgary area.
The goal is to deliver 2,500 affordable homes within the next five years through their ownership and affordable rental programs, a release reads.
The Village Block housing project will provide 57 affordable rental homes, including 12 accessible units.
The project itself is part of Calgary City Council’s Non-Market Housing Land Disposition Policy to sell land at book value rather than at market value to non-profit organizations whose priority is to develop affordable housing.
Under this round of the non-market land sale, the city is also able to provide direct capital funding of up to $75,000/unit to Liberty Housing Organization, representing an additional $4.3 million in funding, the release continues.
