HAMILTON, ONT.—The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is celebrating Safety and Health Week virtually this year with free, live online events from May 2 to 5.
CCOHS developed the program for organizations to include as part of their Safety and Health Week activities for workers, indicates a release.
Activities begin May 2 with the Safety and Health Week 2022 Virtual National Kick-off from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (EDT). CCOHS, along with its national partners, will officially kick off the week and announce the winners of the Focus on Safety National Youth Video Contest.
On the same day, there will be a keynote address with Tareq Hadhad: Resiliency Through Adversity from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. (EDT). Hadhad, a Syrian-Canadian entrepreneur and founder of Peace by Chocolate, will share his journey from Syria to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
On May 3, a session entitled Indigenous Communities at Work: Building Trust and Sustaining Wellbeing will take place from 1 to 1:45 p.m. (EDT). Stacey Maguire of Glooscap First Nation and Travis Woodworth of Millbrook First Nation will discuss workplace health and safety in Indigenous communities. This session will touch on the value of integrating culture into safety programs to gain community acceptance and the complexities of situations workers face in small, rural communities.
Midweek Mental Fitness will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. (EDT) on May 4 to help workers improve focus, lower stress and increase productivity with mental fitness. The session will help participants pause, relax and reflect as they exercise their brain and join in a short, guided meditation.Ìý
On May 5 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., health and safety professionals Lee-Anne Lyon-Bartley and Janet Mannella will discuss five steps to positively change an organization’s health and safety culture in a session billed Take Action, Don’t Walk By.
Each session during Safety and Health Week will include live French audio interpretation.
